Alkyloxycarbonyl group migration in furanosides

A migration of methyloxycarbonyl group from secondary to primary hydroxyl was observed in furanosides (ribosides and xylosides) under usual desilylation conditions using tetrabutylammonium fluoride. The migration was studied further on several alkyloxycarbonyl furanosides under either basic or acidic conditions. As follows from ¹³C labelling experiments and product distribution, the migration in xylosides, proceeds intramolecularly via six-membered cyclic carbonate, whereas in ribosides, the migration is intermolecular. Acidic conditions prevented the migration in ribosides whereas the migration in xylosides was circumvented under neutral conditions.     

Synthesis and anti-leukaemic activity of pyrrolo[3,2,1-hi]indole-1,2-diones,pyrrolo[3,2,1-ij]quinoline-1,2-diones and other polycyclic isatin derivatives

To further expand the structure–cytotoxic activity relationships of isatin derivatives and to reduce flexibility in substituent groups at nitrogen, 20 analogues incorporating a ring system between the N1 and C7 atoms of isatin were prepared using a variety of synthetic strategies. This yielded pyrroloindole-, pyrroloquinoline-, pyrroloacridine-, pyrrolophenanthridine- and benzopyrrolophenanthridine-based systems with embedded isatin moieties, the latter possessing a novel carbon skeleton. These compounds were subsequently assessed for their in vitro cytotoxicity against human U937 lymphoma cells, with the brominated pyrroloacridine dione 27 showing the most promising activity (IC₅₀ 3.01 μM) after 24 h.     

Malayanines A and B, two novel limonoids from Chisocheton erythrocarpus Hiern

Two structurally interesting novel limonoids, malayanine A and malayanine B, were isolated from the bark of Chisocheton erythrocarpus Hiern. The structures were fully characterized through spectroscopic methods.     

Alkoxyallene‐ynes: Selective Preparation of Bicyclo[5.3.0] Ring Systems Including a δ‐Alkoxy Cyclopentadienone

The development of an intramolecular rhodium(I)‐catalyzed Pauson–Khand reaction of alkoxyallene‐ynes with a proximal alkoxy group is reported. This reaction, in the presence of a [Rh(cycloocta‐1,5‐diene)Cl]₂/propane‐1,3‐diylbis(diphenylphosphane) system under a CO atmosphere, constitutes a powerful tool for selectively accessing carbo‐ and heterobicyclo[5.3.0] frameworks featuring an enol ether moiety. Through this procedure, a straightforward access to guaiane skeletons with a tertiary hydroxy group at the C10 position was achieved.
